Carried Over sources antiques and vintage pieces in Portugal and across Europe, imports them to New Hampshire, and sells them on the Seacoast. Every piece is documented, declared, and tagged with where it came from.

What we import

Four categories, chosen for the same reason: they are authentic, they are old, and they belong in a house by the sea.

Small original seascapes, harbors, and fishing boats by European painters, sold in their period frames.

Bordallo Pinheiro

The green cabbage-leaf majolica Portugal has made since 1884, alongside faience and majolica from the rest of Europe.

Tiles & paper

Antique azulejos, sea charts, engravings, and posters. Dated where possible, framed on request.

Silver smalls

Vesta cases, snuff boxes, salts. Hallmarked continental silver, marks read and recorded.

Sourcing

Bought in Europe, by us, in person.

We are based in Lisbon and buy directly at markets, from dealers, and from estates across Portugal, with regular trips to Porto, Seville, France, and northern Italy. We work with a network of dealers who send us pieces before they reach the market.

Every piece is examined for age, marks, and condition before purchase, bought with a receipt, and imported to the United States with a proper declaration. Nothing arrives here that we would not put in our own house.

The tag

Every piece is documented.

Each item carries a tag stamped with its route and completed by hand, and the same record is kept in our register. It is how we track inventory, and it is what separates a piece with provenance from a piece.

  1. The route. Origin and destination, as airport codes. LIS → PSM for most pieces.
  2. What it is. Object, maker or region when we know it, and the decade.
  3. Provenance. Where and when it was acquired.
  4. Condition. Any flaw is noted on the tag and shown in the photographs.
